Willy van Rooy Designer Jewelry |
Style Makers By ELAINE LOUIE Willy van Rooy is proof that there is life after modeling. In the 1970's Dutch born Supermodel Willy van Rooy was a runway model in Paris for Yves Saint Laurent, Karl Lagerfeld and Thierry Mugler. Her pictures appeared in Vogue, Bazaar, Elle and every major magazine. She was a favorite of David Bailey and Helmut Newton. In the late 70's, she started to design freelance for Karl Lagerfeld and for Yves Saint Laurent. They bought all of her designs for bags, shoes, jewels and fabrics. Her designs have what she calls a fairy-tale quality. In her studio in Madrid, during the nineties she designed flamboyant shoes ornamented with stones, lace tapestry and brocades, for women who like as much attention paid to the feet as to the face. They were in demand in exclusive shops in Europe and the United States. She created shoes made with local materials, fabrics used for matadors' uniforms and brocades embroidered with gold thread for clothes worn in the south of Spain. In the Twenty-First Century, Willy designs unique, exclusive pieces of jewelry, in LA which are sought after by current supermodels and other modern fashionista, as well as with her former collegues who visit this website.. Today, Willy lives in Los Angeles where she designs exquisite one of a kind pieces of jewelry. The finely- wrought gold beads are hand made and they are very large . |
